Learning to drive is a rite of passage that opens up a world of possibilities and independence. However, embarking on the journey to become a skilled and responsible driver can be exciting and challenging. Meet Asanda Kondile, well known as Ta Mabheka, as he paves the path for people who want to learn to drive. Ta Mabheka is a local resident who has turned his passion for driving into a mission to educate and empower others with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the road safely.

Kondile’s driving career began at Pronto Driving School, where he served as a  driving instructor for five years between 2016 and 2020 and offered code 8 and code 10 services.  As I had a chat with Ta Mabheka, he took me through his experiences at Pronto Driving School. During his time at Pronto Driving School, he says the owner recognised his potential and self-determination and always encouraged him to start his own driving school. He also got positive feedback and encouragement from the learner drivers he assisted. All that fueled his confidence and determination to pursue his goals.

In the year 2021, against all odds, Mabheka Driving School was launched. However, the path could have been smoother. The first major hurdle he faced was equipment-related challenges. In the present day, Mabheka Driving School still relies on a trusty second-hand car, a faithful companion that has been through countless journeys. However, the reliable second-hand car comes with its challenges. It serves diligently for a month or two, teaching numerous aspiring drivers the art of the road. But, like all good things, it needs rest and rejuvenation, which occasionally puts the brakes on business operations.

However, instead of letting these challenges discourage him, Ta Mabheka uses them as opportunities for innovation. “By God’s grace, I have been able to build a working partnership with the Assumption Development Centre (ADC) for a driver’s licence project that they are doing at the ADC where I assist and provide driving lessons to their participants,” he said.

Mabheka Driving School’s mission is to light the spark of drive in the heart of our communities and empower them to create their own opportunities.

These are some of the comments taken from Mabheka Driving School’s Facebook page:

“Thank you very much, bhuti wam; I wouldn’t have done it without you.”

“Keep up the good work! Such a patient instructor.”

“Mabheka Driving School didn’t only build my driving skills but my confidence as well; for that, I am truly thankful”.

Kondile’s journey as a driving instructor is a testament to the power of passion, dedication and the desire to make a positive impact. To start your driving lessons with Mabheka’s Driving School, call or WhatsApp him on 078 644 4855.
