During the annual Amazwi-Puku Children’s Festival held on 21 – 22 February 2023, Elysoun Ross on behalf of the Grahamstown Film Club, handed over a contribution of R6000 to the Amazwi South African Museum of Literature. This is in recognition of the social club’s use of the museum’s theatre to show monthly movies on the first Friday of each month (except January and July) to members. In glorious sunshine, over 270 Grade 4 to 7 learners gathered around the amphitheatre to take part in story-telling. Learners present were from a number of local primary schools on 22 February 2023 including Graeme College, Ntaba Maria, Holy Cross, CM Vellem and Tantyi. Historically this children’s festival coincides with UNESCO’s International Mother Language Day (21 February) which seeks to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
