Zibangele Mcuba turns old tyres into comfortable chairs and dog kennels, a business idea inspired by the soapie, Generations: The Legacy, which features a pub with chairs made from tyres.

He said business is not doing well currently because he doesn’t have adequate exposure as he works solely from his Joza Street home.

Mcuba, who is also a Ward 2 committee member, uses old car and bicycle tyres, recycled fridges, and wood. Before starting his business, he worked as a general worker at a guest house. It was only after his retirement in 2021 that he began to enjoy working with recycled materials. He has been working inimitably in that vein.

He currently works alone but hopes to work with other people, especially youth, in the future. “I aim to teach young people to use their hands to create jobs for themselves,” said Mcuba. However, he would like to receive help with equipment as he currently uses a knife to cut the tyres.

He said he would be excited to receive orders and can be contacted on 074 613 7320 (WhatsApp and calls).
