Hi fellow protectors,

We’re not going to have a clean-up in the water this weekend – with the news of a typhoid (enteric fever) outbreak in the country and four reported cases in the Eastern Cape (and the possibility of one locally – still to be confirmed); best to stay out of the water until we’ve been able to get it tested.

But, there’s plenty to do about the alien vegetation growing abundantly along the banks – and we need your help to fix it.

Everyone who has a cell phone finds a bit of river that looks as though it has alien vegetation growing next to it – and it’s almost ALL alien, so you can’t go wrong! Scott’s Farm looks like a forest above the bank!

Please take pictures of the whole plant, leaves, berries, flowers and the site where you found it. If possible, use your location function to mark the spot where you found it. Then send it to Kalita at 064 986 5267 – she’s on WhatsApp and will be available to help you with any questions.

Then, if you feel you need some exercise, pull it out, cut it down, pile it up in a big pile so we can arrange to have it collected and thrown away.

I’ll be out of town until Friday, 4 March, but Elizabeth Davies (073 700 7386) and Ntombomzi Monakali (071 847 9010) can answer your questions.

Never give up! Our rivers need you.
