Jim Cambray measured 6.4mm for the week after three days of scorching weather with temperatures over 35 degrees Celcius – “a real heatwave”.

Paul Maylam reported 5.2mm of rain in Cathcart Street, while Robin Stobbs recorded 5mm in Grant Street.

“Not a lot, but my wilting garden enjoyed it after those cooking days!” Robin commented.

Temperatures for the week ranged from 18.5 to 35.5C. “Thankfully, not like the Boland where temperatures were well over 40C!” Jim said.

It has been a relatively dry January, but some good rain is currently predicted for the middle of next week. Fingers crossed!

Lest we forget. This is what Settlers Dam looked like in October 2020. The levels were too low to allow for water extraction. Photo: Peter Cotterrell (aboard Ken Watson’s aircraft)
