St Andrew’s College (SAC) has congratulated its 81-strong Matric Class of 2021 on a stellar set of Independent Examinations Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate (NSC) results across all subjects.
Against the backdrop of two years of learning disrupted by the Coronavirus pandemic, accentuated by lockdowns, online learning, and the disappointments of cancelled sporting and cultural activities, SAC Headmaster Alan Thompson said the boys had lived up to the school motto – Nec Aspera Terrent (Difficulties do not dismay us).
“This ideal of fearless acceptance of challenge sums up what the school aims to instil in its pupils as preparation for future life,” he said.

Dominic Owen from Johannesburg is SAC’s Dux Scholar, achieving six distinctions in Accounting, Afrikaans FAL, Geography, Life Orientation, Mathematics and Physical Science.

Alan Thompson said of the 2021 Matric results, “At St Andrew’s College, we have been working tirelessly on building true academic excellence. Cambridge International A-Level exams
In the Cambridge A-Level results released on 10 January 2022, all 11 candidates passed. Three-quarters of our subject results were A*(starred distinction) or over 90%) to C symbols, and 43% of our subject A-Level results were over 80%, including 31% A* symbols. All candidates who wrote Further Mathematics achieved distinctions, while 56% of our results in A Level Mathematics and 50% of our results in A-Level Chemistry were A* or A symbols.

Thompson said, “We want to extend our warm congratulations to the whole Matric class, both the boys who wrote the IEB NSC and the Cambridge A-Level examinations, respectively. The Cambridge A-Level programme and the IEB examinations provide an excellent platform for study in South Africa and anywhere else in the world.
“We also extend special thanks to the staff who worked with graceful passion for ensuring the best possible outcome for our boys; and the parents who have supported the entire process.”
