Yahweh’s House of Hope Soup Kitchen in Vergenoeg, together with Pick n Pay, last week dished up food for kids and elders.
Chesley Daniels, who owns the soup kitchen and wife Ashlyn, said Pick n Pay once again visited their premises with their Mobile Soup Kitchen van. Daniels said they came with their friendly staff, assisting with the dish-up and providing delicious soup and freshly baked bread prepared by their staff at work. Also present were the Multilingual Story Tellers of Lebone Centre, who entertained the children.
“It was indeed a wonderful afternoon as smiles and joy were visible all over the faces of our beloved people. We are grateful for everyone’s contribution as we plan our Annual Christmas Closing Lunch in due course. We plan to have a proper lunch, hand out party packs, stationery, toys, clothing, etc.
“We once again appeal for any donation in kind to make this event possible for our kids this Christmas. Thank you to Alfonso Ranville Felix and his wife Choneez for donating clothing and Shiela Botha of Sun City Soup Kitchen for her donation. Pick n Pay also put up a trolley for us at their store for people to make donations,” said Daniels.
He said the soup kitchen was established in March 2020.
Daniels said Richard Sphere and his wife Desiree Sphere approached him some time ago to assist them in opening up a soup kitchen or how to go about it.
“That is because previously owned one years ago. It all started when hungry kids came and knocked on their doors asking for food. Since then, we’ve decided to cook and feed the less fortunate and needy children and people in our areas. We started with 15 kids and feed now more than 100 children and adults on a Wednesday and Fridays,” said Daniels.
He further said that they dig deep out of their own pockets every week to make sure their beloved and loyal people get something to eat. He said they do receive occasional donations from individual donors.
“We need sponsors and donations to maintain our soup kitchen and to feed the people. My wife Ashlyn and I, alongside Richard and Desiree Sphere, are now working hand in hand owning the soup kitchen at 21 Beydon Street in Vergenoeg. We planning a closing end of year lunch for the kids and people where we want to cook a proper meal for them, hand out party packs, gifts, stationery, toys, clothing etc.,” said Daniels.
