Port Elizabeth local personalities performed at the fifth instalment of dance-for-charity “Sway in the Bay”
on Saturday 16 November, presented by Galaxy Bingo (and other sponsors) at the Feather Market
Centre.

These local personalities were paired up with professional dancers to show off their Ballroom and Latin American skills in a dance-off for R10 000 for charity.

Local dance teacher, Francois van Eck, owner of Dance With… was selected by Miranda Botha, the organiser and coach, to dance with Miss Luister FM 2019, Bridget Hart.

The eight personalities and their partners had to perform two dances each. Van Eck had six weeks to choreograph and teach Hart two dances. In the first round, they performed a Quickstep to the theme of Grease, “You’re the One that I Want.” The audience waited with bated to breath to hear which four couples would make it through to the finals and we were delighted when Bridget and Francois were called back. They finished their programme with a beautifully executed Rumba, performed with style
and grace to the original theme of “Love Story”.

Sadly, our Grahamstown pair were just pipped at the post. The winning couple, Sophisticate Model, Asande Mchunu and her partner won R10,000 for her charity of choice.

The event also included spectacular performances by SA ballroom champions, Penwell Nhlapo and Lindelwa Mankangeni, who demonstrated inspirational ballroom-styled dance routines, in the form of the Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz and the Viennese Waltz. The event was well supported and tickets were sold out. This annual event is definitely a worthwhile show, not to be missed.
