The Sidbury and Cuylerville First teams ended the Grahamstown Cricket Board’s (GCB) First League on a high note, with both teams recorded impressive bonus point wins in their respective fixtures against Manley Flats and Willows.
The GCB will take a break and will resume in January 2019.
Willows vs Cuylerville
Cuylerville took revenge over Willows after they lost in the first round at Shaw Park. On Saturday 8 December at the St Aidens field, Cuylervillle came out on tops as the better team on the day, with a convincing 122-run bonus point win.
Cuylerville batted first and posted a mammoth 351/6 in their allotted 50 overs. Richard Muir (140) and Brandon Handley (101), scored superb centuries and were in devastating form with the bat. Charlie Muir scored a hurricane 61 runs towards the end of the innings. They dispatch the Willows bowlers all over the park. Veteran bowler Melville Daniels adapted to the situations and bowled an economical spell of 1/18 in 10 overs. Liam Agnew (2/76 (9)), Cole Wessels (1/50 (10)) en Marquin Loutz (1/73 (7)), were all expensive.
Willows started off badly and lost wickets regularly thereafter, due to pressure and accurate bowling by Cuylerville. All rounders Luvane Daniels (57) and Marquin Loutz (52) contributed with fine cameos and batted well. Abner Accom also chipped in with a fine 36 runs, but was not enough for the win. Steven Gornal (3/38 (10)), Jamie Renton (3/30 (8)) and Taylor Ntukela (2/58 (7.2)), were the best bowlers for Cuylerville.
Sidbury vs Manleys Flats
Sidbury celebrated the end of the year with a fine 5-wicket bonus point win over Manleys. They were in control from the outset and ended off in style.
Manleys batted first and could only managed 151 in difficult batting conditions. Ryan Harley (32), Anton Ferreira (30) and Jono Davy (24), proved to be the best batsmen for Manleys. Bryce Howarth (3/43 (10)), Rory Roth (2/21 (7)) and Greg Evans (2/24 (8)), was impressive with the ball for Sidbury.
Sidbury continued with this positive attitude, with opener Greg Evans who did the damage up front. He was the top scorer, with a flamboyant 79 runs. The Savage brothers, Hugh (34) and Cliff (16), caused further damage and finished the innings in style, ensuring a bonus point win for their side. Sidbury ended with 152/5 (34.4).
