Old Andrean, John Rennie (1958), will be visiting Grahamstown next week to attend his 60th Reunion. Since leaving St Andrew’s, Rennie has become a Capetonian Architect and Heritage expert, founded an award-winning architectural firm and been awarded the Cape 300 Gold Medal for his service and contribution to the City of Cape Town’s buildings. However, very close to Rennie’s heart is the landmark George Gilbert Scott Cathedral of St Michael and St George in Grahamstown. Not only did he sing treble in the Cathedral Choir, earning the position of Head Chorister in 1954, during the 80s, he also restored the Cathedral.
Rennie will be giving a talk about the architecture of the Cathedral at 10am on Thursday, 22 November at the Bowling Club for U3A. The talk is open to the public and all are welcome. There will be an entry fee of R5.
