Dave Starke is a Durban-based guitarist and singer. He performs a selection of popular music from the 1950s to the present day including hits by Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Elvis, Leonard Cohen, Cat Stevens, Jack Johnson, Johnny Cash, Rodriguez and many more…
Having grown up in Cape Town, Dave studied music at school and later went on to graduate with a degree in Drama and Classical studies from the University of Cape Town. He has been based in KZN since 2007 and has performed at many of the province’s favourite venues in Durban, Ballito, Zululand and The Midlands.
Dave has 20 years’ experience in live entertainment and was a contestant on the first season of The Voice South Africa. In addition to hotel, corporate and wedding entertainment, Dave composes music for television and film and tours extensively around southern Africa.
Nishalin Pillay is a Hybrid percussionist from Pietermaritzburg, he plays the Tabla, Cajon and several other drums from around the world and has performed live with over 130 international and South African musicians combined in the last year. Nish has also recently made it to the top 100 of South Africa’s Got Talent (2017) as a solo percussionist.
He has headlined at White Mountain Festival 2016 with the Jack Mantis Band and has performed at Splashy Fen, Michaelhouse Music Festival and the East Coast Radio Concert Comedy Craft Festival this year. He has performed on East Coast Radio(Durban), KZN Capital (PMB) and Bush Radio (Cape Town) – all of this in less than 2 years of him being a musician. He has also performed with South African legends like Steve Fataar, Larry Amos.
Nishalin Pillay and Dave Starke will play at Acoustic Cafe on Tuesday 27 November, 7pm to 8.30pm in The Vic, New Street. Entry is R30 with a cash bar and the Gino’s menu available.
