Eastcape Midlands TVET College (EMC) has been identified as one of 15 that would send eight students to China on a year-long international training and internship programme in Energy and Water; as well as Sanitation.
The programme is supported by the Chinese Culture & International Education Exchange Centre together with EWSETA and its main purpose is to create opportunities for the students to gain work experience through integration in a real work learning methodology that is utilised by the top 500 Chinese companies.
The programme also aims to promote investment opportunities and support job creation in South Africa. The TVET students will be exposed to international standards to sharpen their work ethics and help them become global citizens; and provide them with a competitive advantage. They will showcase some of their skills at World Skills competitions.
The eight student who left for China on 29 March 2018 come from EMC’s Electrical Engineering programme, and were selected based coursework and examination results, class attendance as well as attitude and overall conduct. They will additionally be exposed to the Chinese language, culture and skills.
Once the learners have completed their Internship- which will consist of completing their studies at a College or University in China and working within Chinese companies- they will return with an internationally recognised Certificate from both the college and the employer. This will hopefully place them in the job market with internationally recognised work skills for their sector.
China has made rapid advances in areas such as education, infrastructure and high-spec manufacturing, and is a world leader in some technology areas.
Officials at Midlands said they were extremely proud proud to send the eight students to China, trusting that they will gain as much knowledge and experience as possible, and return to the many opportunities that await them as a result of such a programme.
