Thina Zukiswa Maqubela started a small business of selling freshly produced fruit and vegetables since January this year, with a a twist–it does most of its business digitally, either via phone or Facebook.

Thina identified an opportunity to start her small business because she saw a gap in the local market of the businesses that sell  fruit and vegetable products. She felt Grahamstown customers do not get a wide variety in town, thus the idea of starting her own business came about.

“I decided to help those people that are health conscious like me,” said Maqubela who said the business of selling fruit and vegetables has been in her family for long time.

“I also grew up in the family that loves vegetables, my grandmother and mother used to sell fruit and vegetables so I inherited this from them, and my target market was Grahamstown community. We have had a great response from Grahamstown community and students from Rhodes University.”

Maqubela says her business is doing well and because of the high demand of products they have stretched their distribution to Port Elizabeth “and we also doing well there”.

“Because I work full time we encourage our customers to order via our Facebook page: maqubsfruitandveggies or phone on: 071 138 9625”.
