Civil engineers will conduct controlled blasts on the N2 (section  section 13, between Grahamstown and the Fish River Pass) every week until 24 October, according to the SANRAL (the South African National Roads Agency).

“The blasts will occur at various positions along the N2 between KM 81 and KM 92,” said a SANRAL press statement, on this, the second phase of the upgrade of the road. “Blasting will take place between 2pm and 4.30pm, and the road will be closed for approximately one hour during this time.”

Mbulelo Peterson, SANRAL Southern Region’s Manager asked motorists to plan their journeys carefully, use alternative routes and to drive cautiously on that part of the N2.
