The Albany Museum, in conjunction with the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture: Sarah Baartman District, will be hosting a Heritage Month celebration on 8 of September 2017, in the form of a mini festival at the Observatory Museum in Grahamstown. The Observatory Museum is one of the sites of the Albany Museum and it houses the oldest Camera Obscura in the Southern Hemisphere. The Theme for the celebration is ‘Cultural Heritage for sustainable tourism: The Story of the Observatory Museum’.
The day will kick off with a parade from the Drostdy Arch leading to the Observatory Museum by various cultural groups in traditional regalia. The Museum will offer performances, heritage competitions and free guided tours of the facility.
The event also marks the temporary closure of the Observatory Museum for renovations and will be the last day of its normal operations.
