Four men men arrested for illegal hunting appeared in the Tarkastad Magistrate’s Court this week.

According to a SAPS statement by Captain Lariane Jonker, the four men, aged between 18 and 40 were arrested just outside Tarkastad in the Karoo, on Sunday. they were found with a porcupine.

Tarkastad police stopped a Toyota bakkie and confiscated  two licenced 303 rifles, three Steenbok and a  porcupine, Jomker said. The suspects appeared in the Tarkastad Magistrate’s Court this week, where the case was postponed for further investigation, according to the SAPS statement.

Illegal hunting has decimated wildlife across South Africa with rhino, poached for its horn, being particularly vulnerable in recent years.
