The inaugural Running Wild 8km trail run takes place at the Sidbury Sport Club on Sunday and registration will take place before the start, according to Lesley McNutt, Director of Coaching for Conservation.

The 8km trail run starts about 45km from Grahamstown along the N2 towards Port Elizabeth, with athletes going through the Amakhala Reserve and may be lucky enough to see game along the route, including giraffe and zebra, among others.

All the money raised will sponsor BushRAP days for schools within the Grahamstown community.

Harcourts Grahamstown has partnered with C4C on this annual event, as the main sponsors.

According to Natasha Pretorius, Director of Community Engagement at St Andrew’s College, the idea for the trail run stems from the partnership between SAC and DSG with Coaching for Conservation.

“Last year we got together and looked for different ways that the schools could help sponsor BushRAP days for our partner schools,” she said, “In 2016 the money raised from 24 4 Smiley was used to send Good Shepherd on a BushRAP this year.”  Pretorius said the idea is to have the run become an annual event “and use the funds raised to send more schools thus helping to create awareness of conservation issues amongst the youth of Grahamstown.

“The beauty of the run as it is now taking shape, shows true community partnership as so many different players have come together to make this possible. There has been a great commitment from members of the community in all different spheres to come together in a way that will benefit the youth of our town.”

Fun food, festivities and activities for the whole family from 10am to 2pm on Sunday 11 June. There will be a tuck shop with cool drinks, crisps, chocolates and boerewors rolls for sale.
