Old Graeme boy Jon-Jon Smuts has capped off a career changing season for the Warriors with a call-up to the South Africa ‘A’ 50 over squad for their tour against the England Lions in May/June.

Smuts who, captained the Warriors to the final of the CSA T20 challenge and Momentum One-Day Cup, earned a call-up to the senior squad earlier this year and made his international T20 debut against Sri Lanka on 20 January.

He finished the T20 challenge as the competitions leading run scorer and scored some fantastic knocks which included a century to help the Warriors to their first final in six competitions.

His prolific form this season as an opening batsman and a handy left arm spin option has just seen him nominated for the Momentum One-Day Cup as well as the CSA T20 Challenge cricketer of the season establishing himself as one of the best players in the domestic set up.

Whilst taking a bit of time to make his mark, Smuts has finally had the breakthrough season he has been hoping for and at 28, he still has a few good years ahead to try and step up and add a few more international caps to his name.

His call-up to the South Africa ‘A’ side means that he currently sits in the framework of the international team and he will be hoping to impress the selectors during the five day series which starts on 27 May.
