While their respective 1st teams were playing in the SPAR Eastern Cape Schoolgirls Hockey Challenge, the Kingswood College and DSG 2nd hockey teams met on Saturday in a game set up as a practice run for K-Day. The opening whistle signaled the start of the game at 11am on DSG’s home field.

The first goal was brilliantly scored by Joanne Rhode of DSG and although this was just the first half, the girls made sure that they gave it their all, making every second of the game count. The first half came to an end, with DSG with 1-0 lead over the visitors.

Kingswood came back for a fight giving DSG a run for their money as they played passionate hockey, defending and attacking as best they could. The heat and sweat paid off for Kingswood and Gabby Peckham was able to score one goal in their favour, tying the numbers on the score board and leaving each team with 1 goal.

The players kept the intensity of the game up until the last whistle and continued to show their dedication to the game with every hit and every run. The final score was a draw 1-1. A good game of hockey was delivered and gave supporters a small taste of how competitive their level of hockey promises to be for the long season ahead.
