Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said an 11-year-old boy swimming in the dam drowned around 4.30pm today, Sunday 22 January 2017.

Govender said a fellow swimmer retrieved the body of the child, whose name would be released once his next of kin had been informed.

She said an inquest docket had been opened for investigation.
