    Give us youth a chance

Luckily, Makana Municipality and Eskom seem to be able to come to an agreement that means no early 2017 blackouts for Grahamstown.

On behalf of Grahamstown’s youth, I feel like our needs are never gonna be met if the people in power are still deciding for us.

Not every young individual is going to help build the infrastructure of Makana, but we can help grow the economy if given the opportunity.

It might be a job for the gatekeepers to grant services because it puts food on the table − but it is a need for the other end: we need those services to survive.

We have a lot of people with skills in town but they lack facilities to work. On the other hand, we come across a lot abandoned buildings which turn into spaza shops in no time.

Makana Arts and Culture is taken into consideration during the June-July period and hides in the shade after that.

Not all of us are interested in construction, but we can see that those who are, are considered as subcontractors… I can’t tell why though.

Our schools need be taken care of, the learners need to make it a priority to go to school during winter, because classrooms are warm.

I wish the matriculants who have performed well will be helped to further their studies: it’s a tough journey to get funds for study.

The government should give organisations a chance to do the job if they (officials) cannot do it.
