An England side featuring former Graeme College exchange student Dan Bibby won the Cape Town Sevens on Sunday evening, beating South Africa 19-17 in the final.

South Africa opened the scoring through a try from Chris Dry, which Branco du Preez did not convert. However, Richard de Carpentier responded by dotting down under the posts, leaving Tom Mitchell with an easy conversion, which he duly slotted over the posts.

Dan Norton then scored for England, but Mitchell failed to convert. They nonetheless went into half-time 12-5 up.

A chip and chase from Rosko Specman led to him scoring the Blitzboks' second try soon after half-time. Cecil Afrika successfully converted, levelling the scores.

Ruaridh McConnochie put England back ahead with a try, which Mitchell converted, leaving the Blitzboks in trouble with barely two minutes left on the clock.

Specman nearly broke through again in the final minute, but was halted by a dangerous tackle, which saw Norton yellow carded.

Werner Kok then scored in the dying embers of the game. It all came down to Justin Geduld, who missed the conversion, granting England victory.

Having finished second in Pool C to New Zealand, England improved significantly on the second day of the tournament, beating Fiji and Scotland before toppling the hosts, who remain on top of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series log.
