Anthony Evans, who is serving 10 years in jail after being identified as part of a website based international child pornography ring, has made an application in the Grahamstown High Court to have access to the internet on his laptop.

Anthony Evans, who is serving 10 years in jail after being identified as part of a website based international child pornography ring, has made an application in the Grahamstown High Court to have access to the internet on his laptop.

Evans was sentenced last year by Judge Judith Roberson after he pleaded guilty to the possession, distribution and manufacture of child pornography.

On Monday, Judge Jeremy Pickering postponed the matter to 13 December. Evans is asking the Minister of Correctional Services, Michael Masutha, to grant him access to his laptop.

Court documents state that Evans has enrolled with Unisa to complete his Bachelor of Science studies.

The former Grahamstown businessman states that having a laptop with internet will make his studies easier.

“The application is for that the applicant be permitted supervised Internet access for the purpose of his Unisa studies and using a 3G wireless internet modem in the correctional services school,” reads the document.

The 54-year-old was arrested on 11 March last year in a joint raid by local police and the FBI.

Allegedly, he was the information technology mastermind behind the ring, and is wanted for extradition to the US, where most of the 600 girl victims lived.
