Three Grahamstown men will appear in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court today, Wednesday 7 December, in connection with a murder case, after the body of a teenager was found in a dumping area near a Joza school.

Grahamstown police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said the men were arrested after the body of an unidentified teenage girl was found in a rubbish area near TEM Mrwetyana in Joza.

"Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim sustained serious head injuries and several stab wounds on her upper body.

"Three suspects in their teens, one 16-year-old and two 18-year-old males, have been taken into custody. A case of murder is being investigated," said Govender.

A community member who wanted to remain anonymous, said the deceased was between the ages of 16 and 17 years old. It is alleged that the incident happened last Saturday night in Joza.

"Apparently they killed the young girl in one of the suspects' room in Joza. We don't know whether they raped her or not. But she had wounds that looked like she had been hacked on her body.

"They apparently took the body on the night and dumped it on the rubbish site. Monday morning, 5 December, a woman who went to dump rubbish in the dump site near TEM Mrwetyana School found the body of the teenager.

"Police were then called and a shoe that was found near the body was allegedly identified as belonging to one of the suspects.

"Police went to the suspect's room. On arrival the suspect refused to open the door but eventually opened up. Police searched the flat and discovered that under the bed's mattress there was a pool of blood," said the community member.

He was then arrested and other suspects were also found and arrested in connection with the murder. The community member said it was clear that the suspect slept with the pool of blood on Sunday as they were only arrested on Monday.
