Grahamstown will experience water disruptions for eight hours on Thursday, Makana Municipality has announced.

The shut-down is due to maintenance to be done at Howiesonspoort rising main which feeds Waainek Water Treatment Works on the Western side of town.

The planned maintenance works involves repairing of the elevated tank at Waainek WTW, replacement of scour valves, installation of reducing valves and actual repairs to the mainline.

This work is intended to ensure that the rising main does not fail while the municipality is preparing for the major refurbishment of the rising main. The work will be conducted by Makana, Amatola Water and MBB teams.

The shut-down will be from 7am to 3pm on Thursday.

The municipality has reserved the storage of raw water supply from the two lei dams to supply during the downtime.

Residents are urged to use water sparingly during the execution of the works to minimise water disruptions.

The Municipality has apologised for any inconveniences this may cause.  For further enquiries, contact: Engineers Department: 046 603 6063 I 6136; Fire Department: 046 603 6000
