Rhodes University Choir is among those to have advanced to the semi-finals of kykNet's Varsity Sing.

Stellenbosch University, the University of the Western Cape, Nelson Mandela University and Rhodes University Chamber choirs have all advanced through to the semi-finals which will be broadcast on kykNET on 29 September and 6 October.

Only two choirs per semi-final will advance to the final The Tuks Camerata, which is also competing, have been invited to perform at World Choral Symposium.

This will take place in Barcelona, Spain in July next year. This conference is held every three years and is hosted by the International Federation of Choral Music (IFCM).

Only 24 choirs across the globe have the honour of being invited to sing at the WCS, presented to thousands of conductors, composers, singers, and choral music lovers.

Next year, Tuks Camerata will represent the University of Pretoria, South Africa as well as the entire African continent. As part of the tour, they will also compete in the European Choir Games to be held in Riga, where they will defend their title of World Champions. 

The choir will be performing for a spot in the semi-finals this week against the University of Johannesburg and the University of Limpopo. Only two of these choirs will advance to the semi-final competition which will be broadcast on kykNET on 15 and 29 September.

Tickets to the live semi-final shows on 6 and 14 September at the Linder Auditorium in Johannesburg, and Hugo Lambrecht Music Centre in Cape Town are now available. They can be purchased through the Varsity Sports app at R20 per ticket.
