Despite having narrowly missed out on the Blitzboks’ final Olympic squad, Old Andrean Ryan Kankowski has nonetheless had a glittering rugby career since matriculating in 2003.

Despite having narrowly missed out on the Blitzboks’ final Olympic squad, Old Andrean Ryan Kankowski has nonetheless had a glittering rugby career since matriculating in 2003.

A 2008 SA rugby player of the year nominee, Kankowski chalked up 20 Springbok caps in between his two stints with the Blitzboks in 2006 and 2016.

The number eight, who made his Springbok debut in 2007, also boasts a distinguished club rugby CV – having starred for the Sharks in South Africa and the Toyota Industries Shuttles in Japan.

Kankowski credited his old school as a key factor in his journey to the pinnacle of professional rugby, stating: “A lot of what I've achieved, I can attribute to St. Andrews College – from on the field to everyday and how I live my life.”

The 30-year-old also left a message for current pupils, stating: “Some of the best years of my life were spent at school, so cherish it, as you will miss it and your friends once it's over.”

“Make the most of what's been given to you.”
