Former Kingswood College and Mary Waters High School pupil Rosko Specman has been included in coach Neil Powell's 12-man squad for the Olympic men's 7s rugby tournament (9-11 August).

Specman has been rewarded for his impressive season for the Blitzboks – which started with a series of fine performances in December's Cape Town Sevens victory.

However, the squad announcement did not only yield good news for Grahamstown. Having made the training squad, Old Andrean Ryan Kankowski missed the final cut.

Kankowski was not the only Springbok to fall short of final selection, as Bryan Habana and Francois Hougaard also missed out. However, Hougaard will travel as a reserve.

Meanwhile, Juan de Jongh and Cheslin Kolbe have been included – proving that it is possible for Springbok stars to reach the pinnacle of both formats of the game.
