The schools were identified by the Grahamstown education department district office Special Programmes Officer Nopinkie Kukisi.
Makana school Head of Department Gwen Mvula-Jamela thanked them for the generosity showed by RAF to the schools.
“On behalf of the school management, the entire teachers, parents and the school governing body, we appreciate the gesture made by Roads Accident Fund.
“They have contributed in the alleviation of poverty in the school because socio-economic problems of the kids are too much and also most of the children are living with their grandparents.
“They do come to school barefoot and we really appreciate this and it is a gesture that will never be forgotten.
“We are also full of gratitude for Nopinkie Kukisi who identified the school as one of the needy and also unfortunately she was an ex-learner of the school and now she is ploughing back to the society,” said Mvula-Jamela.
RAF Marketing and Communications Officer Nonkoliseko Jaza said RAF has a responsibility to give back to the communities. She said donating the shoes the schools on Wednesday was part of their job.
Jaza said this is a way of trying to bring back dignity of the children.
“Besides helping out people who were injured in the roads this is what we are also doing. We look out in our communities and see what we could do.
“We handed out 15 pairs of shoes to each school and on top of that we donated stationery to the schools. We are promoting road safety even to school kids now,” said Jaza.
Today RAF will be at Noluthando Hall to assist people who were involved in road accidents.
“We will be helping out people with their claims, like if you submitted your claim and would like to know what at what stage it is now.
“Some submitted their claims using attorneys and we will inform them if they were paid enough money by their attorneys.
“We are going to welcome people who also have questions on maybe how to submit their forms.
“There are those who have just been involved in car accidents and don’t know how to submit claim forms and we inviting them to come.
“We will explain all the process and the documents that we require in order for them to submit their applications,” said Jaza.
