Tsepiso Nzayo left Grahamstown in stitches on Saturday when he brought Tsepiso and Friends Comedy night to City Hall – 200 tickets were sold.

The comedian says he was surprised by the turn out. “I didn't expect it because Grahamstown is hard to penetrate.”

The audience was first treated to poetry by Gcobisa Sihle Maholwana. Then comedians took turns tackling many issues from how Xhosa women dance to their favourite radio presenters.

The audience went into a frenzy when the main man Nzayo took the stage. Introducing himself he said, “ My name is Tsepiso Sathie Nzayo and I am not gay.” He joked about how people think he is gay because of his squeaky voice. “Even when I speak to my uncles at home,I have to ask my younger brother to represent me because his voice has more authority than mine.”

All the comedians could not stop bragging about the energy of the audience. “The audience was beautiful. I loved their energy. I am definitely coming back,” said Tru FM presenter Buck Matyila.

Zimvo Mpahleni could not contain himself. “Oh I love Grahamstown, they give you confidence. You can even create jokes while you are on stage. It was my first time here but I felt at home. They made me feel like a comedian.”

“I don't believe how much they love comedy. The crowd was very welcoming. I really enjoyed their energy,” said excited comic Sonwabile Sigcau.

Mbulelo Msongelwa chipped in, “Grahamstown is alive bro.”

The attendees were also happy with the show.

Another person who came to watch, Khaya Tonjeni was also pleased with the show. “They gave us good material. It was the best. They filled the hall. It is a big achievement. However it was not Grahamstown that filled the hall it was people from Rhini if you know what I mean.”

It was the first time the show was hosted in Grahamstown “I am grateful for the support Grahamstown people have given me.”

He added that he plans to bring Tsepiso and Friends Comedy Night again in future.
