Two local choirs have recently had success in the South African Schools Choral Eisteddford, the district rounds of which were held at the Indoor Sports Centre recently.

Nombulelo High School have had four items make it through the megadistrict round and, therefore, through to the Provincial rounds:

Western Piece: Ah Grazie
Afrikaans Piece: Kaapse Kanarie
Solo Bass (O Carla)
Quartet (Zenzenina)

They also achieved two second positions and three thirds.  Head teacher Nicci Hayes says, "I believe it is unprecedented for so many items from one school to go through to the Provincial rounds."

The Tantyi Junior Choir (Grades 3 and 4), directed by Grade 1 teacher Luleka Vabaza, won the vernacular category for their piece, "Intfuftwane".

They went on to participate in the megadistrict round in Jeffreys Bay on 14 May, where they placed 4th in the same category.

The infants (Grade R – Grade 2), under the direction of Grade R teacher Bongiwe Sifunda, sang 'I love my Mom' in the Western piece category, and Segwagwa ('The Frog') in the Vernacular category.

They came second in the District round.
