Grahamstown police seized drugs worth half a million rands from a passenger on a bus following a routine check on the N2 to Port Elizabeth this weekend.

Grahamstown police spoksperson Captain Mali Govender said members of the Grahamstown Highway Patrol seized 4 107 mandrax tablets with a street value of approximately R500 000 after searching a bus at a vehicle checkpoint around 9am on Saturday 23 April.

Govender said the long-distance bus was travelling from Pretoria to Port Elizabeth. Sergeant Thabo Mnguni, Constable Lungile Mbadu and Constable Samora Makeba conducted the search.

“During a routine search, a 48-year-old female was arrested for possession of mandrax tablets,” Govender said.”The suspect will appear in the Grahamstown magistrate’s court shortly.”
