Grocott's Mail has two free tickets to offer readers for a recital by a celebrated duo who will perform cello and piano at St Andrew's Drill Hall today, Thursday 21 April.

Cellist Alexander Ramm and pianist Pieter Jacobs will perform together today, Thursday 21 April, at St Andrew's Drill hall.

Ramm belongs to the new generation of cellists recognised for his appealing artistic creativity and unprecedented technical skills: he is also a prize winner of several major international competitions.

Ramm was born in Vladivostok in 1988 and showed his musical talent from a very early age.  Since 2012, he has been a post graduate student at the Hanns-Eisler Hochschule fur Musik under the guidance of the famous cellist Frans Helmerson.

Pieter Jacobs has been widely acclaimed for his performances as soloist and chamber musician in the main centres of South Africa.

He has given solo recitals in major South African cities and with various distinguished visiting European and American artists in duo recitals throughout the country, as well as with prominent South African chamber music ensembles.

The programme will consist of: Edvard Grieg:  Cello sonata, Op 36 in A minor (1883); Samuel Barber: Cello sonata, Op 6 in C minor (1932); Sergei Prokofiev: Cello sonata, Op 119 (1949); Ástor Piazzolla: Le Grand Tango for cello and piano.

Tickets will be available at the door: adults R90, pensioners R70, tertiary students R50, and schoolchildren and GMS members free.

The programme will start at 7.30pm.

To win these two free tickets, please answer the question:  Where was Alexander Ramm born?

Your answer can be emailed to editor@grocotts.co.za
