This takes the price of 95 to R12.39 and 93 to R12.06 – a significant 7.5% increase from March.
Paraffin is also going 76c and LP Gas 110c.
Part of the reason for the increase is due to the 30c per litre levy announced by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan in his February budget.
The other reason was the rise in the price of petroleum products in international markets – of about 52c/l for petrol and 61c/l for diesel, according to the Department of Energy.
However, the Department pointed out that the strengthening of the Rand agains the Dollar did cushion the rise by as much ast 10%.
“There is no need to panic at this stage because the crude oil price fluctuations are not expected to be excessive if major geopolitical conflicts are excluded,” the department said.
