Two top Grahamstown police officers have been moved away from their posts following alleged internal disputes.

Former Grahamstown Cluster Commander, Brigadier Morgan Govender, has left his job to take up a new position as the Eastern Cape Commander of Visible Policing, according to a reliable source inside SAPS.

Former Grahamstown Station Commander, Colonel Vivian Tembani has also left town. She is reportedly working in Mthatha.

Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, refused to answer any questions related to Govender’s move to the provincial office.

“It is not the policy of the SAPS to discuss administrative matters with the media,” he said.

“SAPS in the province remains committed in fighting crime. SAPS Eastern Cape management have taken all the necessary steps to ensure that policing in the Grahamstown area is not hampered in any way.

“SAPS encourages all communities, business owners and individuals to work together with the police by reporting crime and criminal activities,” said Soci.

A source in the provincial head office said the position that Govender is currently occupying has been advertised.

“That position has been advertised but I'm not sure whether he has also applied for it or [if]he will return back to Grahamstown,” said the source.
