Four Grahamstown swimmers – John Maree, Erin Jarvis, Toni Rafferty and Courtney Repinz – had success at the recent South African Level 3 National Age Group Swimming Championships in PE.
All four of them made at least one final, withToni winning three medals and breaking two records. She won a silver in the 100m freestyle beating her own Eastern Province Open women's record as well as the girls U14 record with a time of 59.45 seconds.
She also got two bronze medals – having tied for third place in the 50m butterfly in 29.24 seconds and in the 50m freestyle with a time of 27.88.
John made both the 50m and100m backstroke finals. He was an unlucky fourth (the race was won by a US junior swimmer) in the 100m and 5th in the 50m.
Courtney made the final in the 50m backstroke and came 7th. Erin was placed 8th in the 50m freestyle final.
With over 1000 entries, this was one of the biggest Level 3 galas ever, which means an even greater achievement by our local quartet.
