Rhodes Students will march to the Grahamstown police station tomorrow (Thursday 3 March).
According to march organiser, Lihle Ngcobozi, this is in response to a recent incident where a student was allegedly intimidated, harassed and threatened by two white men dressed in full police uniform in Beaufort Street.
At the time, police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender confirmed that they were investigating a case of individuals impersonating police officers.
Crime Intelligence Officer Captain Milanda Coetzer has confirmed that the march will go ahead.
She said the police, Makana municipality, traffic department and student organisers met yesterday (Tuesday) and the march was approved.
"The march will start at 1pm [Thursday] from Drostdy Arch, go up Somerset Street and along Beaufort Street to the police station.
"At the police station they will be addressed by Lieutenant Colonel Monray Nel, the acting station commander of Grahamstown," said Coetzer.
The university media officer Catherine Deiner, said, this is not an official Rhodes march.
"There is no march planned by the University. As far as I understand the march is being planned by the Black Students Movement," said Deiner.
