Volunteer hairdressers and Victoria Primary School pupils brandishing electric razors and spray-cans greeted shoppers as they arrived at the Pepper Grove Pick n Pay on Saturday (20 February) morning.

Not many people were brave enough to have all their hair shaved off, but plenty more were happy to have their hair spray painted. All participants were more than willing to make a donation for the privilege of having a customised hair-dressing experience.

Official Shavathons will be taking place at shopping centres nationally on the 27 and 28 of February and in workplaces from 29 February to 4 of March.

The first Shavathon was held in the Eastern Cape in 2003 and has since gone national. The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) uses donations to provide services to the public and all people affected by cancer.
