The third event of the Eastern Cape Swimming Series takes place at Settlers Dam on Sunday (17 January).
The open water series is presented by Zsports Events NPC and sanctioned by Nelson Mandela Bay Aquatics as the only official open water swimming series in the Eastern Cape where swimmers can qualify for the South African Open Water Swimming Champs.
“The Series caters for all open water swimmers and triathletes and encourages growth in this fun sport,” said race director Michael Zoetmulder of Zsports Events NPC.
Each race day in the Series will therefore be open to both swimsuit and wetsuit swimmers but official Swimming South Africa times are only applicable to the swimsuit category in accordance with FINA OWS rules.
Each event will include10km, 5km, 3km and 1km swims.
This season the EC Swim Series (which saw events taking place at Settlers Dam in November) will consist of 5 race days including the NMBA OWS Championships, offering all registered swimmers the ideal opportunity to achieve qualifying SSA times.
Registration for Sunday’s event opens at 8am, with the 10km and 5km swims starting at 9am. The 1km swim starts at 9.05am, with the 3km event taking place at 11am.
Round 4 is scheduled for Saturday 7 February, which is also the NMB OWS 10km and 3km championships. The final round will take place on Sunday 14 February.
