The second half of the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series – Season XI kicks off this Sunday (10 January) morning at Hobie Beach and a packed beach will be anticipated for round 6 of the 10 round Series.

The only Series of it's kind in Africa offers something for the whole family with 3 swimming races (1km, 2km & 3km), 2 beach events (5km Run and 5km Walk) and a Kids 12 years and under 1km beach run/walk.

"Whilst well attended, the first half of the season during 2015 was hampered by very poor weather and we'll be hoping for a few more great beach days over the next 4 months." said race director Michael Zoetmulder of Zsports Events NPC. "The Series continues to attract participation from around the country and is a great drawcard to showcase our magnificent Blue Flag beaches."

Over and above the race day medals and acknowledgement to age group and overall category winners, the Series also offers floating trophies to the overall Series champions with an action packed final prize giving function after round 10 at News Cafe on Sunday 3rd April. Leading the pack after 5 rounds in the 1km Ocean Swim is Kirsten Marriott and Ian Venter whilst Denise Bosman and Daniel Jones lead the 2km Ocean Swim standing. Rebecca Newman and Wayne Jones lead the 3km swim standings whilst on the beach it's Maritza Craig and Grobbie Grobler leading the 5km Beach Walk and Johnny Muller and Reda Potts in the 5km Beach Run.

If your News Years resolution is to get fit and have fun in 2016 then Hobie Beach on Sunday morning will be a great starting point to join like minded people. 5 rounds will conclude the second half of Season XI with 2 race days in January, 2 in March and the final round on the first weekend of April. No aQuellé Ocean Racing Series events take place during February because of the SPAR River Mile festival, Jendamark Bellbuoy Challenge and the Nelson Mandela Bay Aquatics open water championships.

For non-Series members a once off R50 membership fee will apply for Season XI whilst entry fees are just R60 for the swim events, R40 for the beach events and R30 for the kids event. Online entries on  www.oceanracingseries.com with late entries accepted at the Beach on Sunday from 7.30am. Racing gets underway at 9am followed by kids prize giving at 10am and adult prize giving from 10.15am. Awesome action photographs from the mornings activities are taken by Oracle Media and available on the Ocean Racing Series Facebook page after each race day.
