The Grahamstown boxer won an eight round unanimous decision against Mxolisi Xayo in OR Tambo Hall, Cape Town on Friday 27 of November.
The bout was on the undercards of the WBF International title fight between Mfundo Gwayana and Dalisizwe Komanisi and was an eight round, non-title fight.
It was Ndwayana’s second win this year. His opponent came in the ring with a 4kg weight advantage but Ndwayana says that didn’t faze him at all.
He adds that he knew he had a job to do in Cape Town and nothing was going to stop him from completing his mission.
The fight went the full distance with all three judges giving Ndwayana the nod.
Ndwayana says they took the decision as a camp to go the full eight rounds as the main objective was to advertise themselves to prospective promoters.
“The fight went according to the plan; he was not much of a competition for me. “I could have finished the fight very early but we decided to go the full distance so that promoters can see the skills I am able to bring to the ring.
“Most promoters do not enjoy a boxer who just comes and finishes the fight before people can even enjoy it, so my plan was to make sure that I box a little bit longer,” said Ndwayana .
He believes that plenty of promoters were impressed by his showing and says that a couple of them promised an SA title very early next year. A potential WBF international title fight may also be on the way. Ndwayana is confident that many doors will open for him.
He has, for a long time, been seen as a prospect to look out for – especially in a municipality not known for its sporting activities.
If any of the promoters keep their word, 2016 might be make or break for the dream of bringing a boxing belt to Grahamstown.
