Stream A defending champions Maru lost 4-3 to United XI from Bathurst – made all the more painful by the fact that Maru were the home side.

It was a similar story for both XI Attackers and new-comers, Makana Pillars, who were both playing away.

Attackers were walloped 4-1 by Golden Chiefs (from Alexandria) and Pillars were welcomed to the division with a 3-0 defeat by Friendly City (from Alicedale).

Though not much can be read in the opening round results, it’s worth mentioning that Maru didn’t lose a single home fixture last season.

This time round, they have already gone out in the first round of the Nedbank preliminaries and have struggled to find form in the preseason friendlies.
