“We sold most of the products brought in,” Jayes said afterwards.
“And there were lots of people in and out throughout the morning.”
The Cathedral of St Michael and St George’s annual fete is held in the St George’s Hall, in Grahamstown’s High Street hub. Even the weather played its part, said Jayes.
“They’d predicted rain for the morning, but somehow the rain stayed away,” she said.
That and the fact that it was the end of the month played their part in achieving an impressive figure for their fundraising efforts.
A new feature at the fete was a wine auction: parishioners donated 24 bottles of wine and Marian’s husband Wayne, a keen home brewer, contributed four bottles of his special beer.
“The white elephant stall also did really well,” Marian said. As usual, stalwart Andrew Tracey was there sharpening knives and scissors for a fee.
