The Warriors successfully chased down the Cape Cobras target of 250 for 9 after their allotted 50 overs. Sisanda Magala took three wickets in four balls to eventually return impressive figures of five for 40 runs to restrict the Cape Cobras batting line-up. In reply, Captain Colin Ingram struck a well-constructed 70 off 82 balls which proved to be the backbone of the Warriors chase, before Christiaan Jonker (44 not out), and Colin Ackermann (35 not out) combined for an unbroken 79 run partnership that sealed the victory for the Warriors.
Warriors coach Malibongwe Maketa was pleased with the performances of his side so far in the season. “We have played good cricket, but it is still early in the season and there is still a lot more cricket left to be played. With the stop start nature of the different competitions it is important to start well and gather momentum.”
There have been a number of good performances in the Momentum One Day Cup competition; Colin Ingram is third on the leading batting averages with 298 runs from four games, with a high score of 120, averaging 99.33. Sisanda Magala is second behind Wayne Parnell on the leading wicket takers log with 9 wickets from five games, a healthy average of 18.88.
The Warriors now look forward to the start of the Ramslam T20 competition which kicks off with a double header on Sunday 1 November against the VKB Knights at PPC Newlands in Cape Town.
