The body of a man aged between 40 and 50 was found in Joza yesterday.
Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said it was discovered at an Extension 6 home around 5.30am.
"Joza SAPS are investigating," said Govender. She added that there were injuries to the upper body.
"The owner of the house had no knowledge of how the body got there and who the person was. However, relatives of the victim later managed to identify him," said Govender.
Govender said there were no similarities between this case and any of the other recent cases and nothing to support public speculation that it was linked to the other murders under investigation in the area, or that it could be the work of a serial killer.
"There is also no evidence that the body suffered human mutilation," Govender said.
"The SAPS continues to [refute]rumours of a serial killer… in Grahamstown." Govender said the Eastern Cape SAPS management had called for calm and respect for the rule of law, and appealed to the community to work with the police in apprehending the suspect(s).
"An appeal is made to any member of community or any person who may be able to assist with any information to please contact the Detectives Lt Mzwandile Maleki on 046 603 9111, Warrant Officers: John Manzana on 082 779 7117 and Kabous Lensley on 082 442 3747.
"Information can be shared through Crime Stop 08600 10 111 and Crime Line 32211, all information will be treated as confidential," said Govender.
