Cody van Wyk and Natalie Ross were named Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year at the Rhodes University Sports Awards ceremony that took place at the monument last Friday.

Cody van Wyk and Natalie Ross were named Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year at the Rhodes University Sports Awards ceremony that took place at the monument last Friday.

Van Wyk, a member of the hockey club, represented the Eastern Province U21 hockey side. From here he was selected as part of the South African U21 team.

Ross, a member of the athletics club, won silver in her age group in the South African Triathlon Championships and also awarded an elite duathlon racing licence.

She finished second in the elite race at the African Cup Duathlon Championships and was selected for both the South African Triathlon and Duathlon teams to take part in the world championship events (although she did not take part in either).

Performance of the Year – Rowing 4 (world student games), Tristan Wentworth, Murray Roodt, Nicholas Greeff and Bradley Betts

Community Outreach Award – Hockey

Inter Residence Spirit Award – Allan Gray

Inter Residence winner (men) – Jan Smuts

Inter Residence Winner (women) – Oppidan
