A Rhodes University student accused in a June hit and run incident appeared in the Grahamstown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 29 September.
In the incident, the man's fellow student Khanya Ndimba died after being struck by a car in New Street in the early hours of 13 June 2015.
The case has been postponed to 2 November 2015 for further investigation. The accused, who is on bail, asked for the case to be postponed until after 20 November, when he finishes writing exams.
Eric Ofei, of the Rhodes SRC, posted on the Rhodes SRC Facebook group asking that students refrain from discussing the matter on Facebook.
On Wednesday morning, Ofei wrote to the group, "About Ms Ndimba’s case (God bless her soul), I humbly ask that we refrain from making it a topic of discussion on the SRC Page. Some family members and close friends were not happy with the manner in which it was handled in the beginning and I think we need to be respectful and sensitive to their concerns.
"I am sure that the questions are coming from a good place and people are genuinely concerned about the case. But in our quest for information and justice, let us be sensitive and exercise good judgement. If there are other ways of getting information (of which there are), rather use those avenues and NOT Facebook," Ofei wrote.
