Thieves broke in to Clicks Store in High Street, Grahamstown on Wednesday night, 16 September, taking cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Grahamstown Crime Intelligence Officer Milanda Coetzer said the thieves entered the store by the roof.

"They had a burglary at the store overnight and suspects entered through the roof. Cellphones and cash were taken," Coetzer said.

Coetzer said no one was in the shop at the time.

"No injuries, just damage to the ceiling," said Coetzer.

She said a special task team from Port Elizabeth was brought in to examine the evidence.

Coetzer said bringing in that specialised team was standard procedure. She said this unit has the responsibility for checking evidence when chain stores were affected by crime.

Store manager Olivia Memani said she couldn't comment. "All I can say is that the police did their job. Otherwise, at this point we are unable to comment on the matter," said Memani.

The store was cordoned off and closed for most of the day on Thursday, as the police conducted their investigation.
