Next Sunday, take the chance to enjoy some of our beautiful countryside at the same time as raising money for an excellent cause at the Oldenburgia Hiking Club charity hike.

It's designed to be easy walking for everyone and will start at the Highlands Tower and, after passing by a dam and through farmland and indigenous bush, end 8kms later with a picnic lunch by the dam on Mike Palmer's farm.

It's also a chance to get up close to our new wind turbines plus organisers are hoping that there will be plenty of birdlife out and about for the viewing.

The R30 entry fee will be donated to the Siyazama Pre-School in Ext 6 which is an NPO and green flag school. The dedicated staff there work for a very small stipend and resources are tight.

Their current dream is to take the children to Assegaai Hiking Trails this year to see animals in the wild.

Last year they took them to Kenton so they could see the sea. Not everyone who lives in Grahamstown has the opportunity to enjoy our wonderful natural surroundings and this hike could give some of our underpriviledged children the chance to do just that.
