Organisers are thrilled to announce that the recent Joyce Poole Memorial bridge event was one of the most successful ever, raising more than R18 000 for Grahamstown Hospice – that's nearly R4 000 more than last year.

It's the ninth year the event has been held. At the event, there were 17 tables (68 players) who played seven rounds of four hands, in the BONE format.

The floating trophy for the highest score went to locals Torquil Paterson and Margaret Banks, and hot on their heels were Shirley Gadd and Sally Moss, also from Grahamstown.

In third place was Ilva Benyon (Grahamstown) and her sister Elzabé Rodrigues (Port Alfred).

Players were delighted with their lucky draw prizes. Members of the Grahamstown Bridge Club provided a delicious tea and the food that wasn't eaten was donated to the Eluxolweni Shelter.

The plan is to hand over the cheque to hospice this week. Look out for pictures in our print edition on Friday.
